Hands down, tiramisu, is one of my all time favourite desserts! I just love the combination of coffee and cream, simply incredible. This recipe is a bit of a cheat version, because it does not use mascarpone cheese, an ingredient that is traditionally used in tiramisu. Instead, we use cream cheese in this, and let me tell you, it is amazing! This particular recipe has been in our family for years. It has become a go-to whenever anyone in our large family (extended family included) is having a get-together, you will likely always find this dessert on the table.
A definite pro of this recipe is just how easy it is to make. Truly, this is one of the easiest dessert recipes I have ever made. Not to mention, you really can’t mess this up, so it’s great for anyone, even those who may not be the most confident dessert makers.
Another great thing about this recipe is that you can make it in advance, and refrigerate it. I recommend leaving it refrigerated for at least 2 hours, but it is best if left overnight because all the flavours will get a great chance to blend nicely together.
One tip for you, in order to keep the cling wrap from touching the top of the tiramisu as it refrigerates, place toothpicks in it. Your cling wrap will touch the toothpicks instead, and you won’t have to worry about the toothpicks ruining your dessert. You won’t even notice anything on the surface when you go to remove the toothpicks prior to serving.
As mentioned in the recipe below, the grated chocolate over top is optional, but I find it adds a lovely presentation to the dessert and would definitely recommend adding this. And the brandy liqueur in this recipe is completely optional. The tiramisu will still taste incredible if you omit this ingredient.
This particular recipe is made in a 12 inch x 8 inch tray, and feeds a crowd (a definite perfect serving size for a larger get-together). Feel free to cut the ingredients in half for a smaller serving, but do keep in mind when deciding on serving size, you (and others) will want seconds of this! And it holds up pretty well in the refrigerator for a bit if any is left over, the flavours continue to intensify the longer it sits.

- 2 (8-ounce) packages of cream cheese
- 2 cups (500 ml) heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 package lady fingers
- 6-8 cups strong coffee
- 2 shots liqueur (brandy works nicely, but you can choose what you like) (optional)
- grated chocolate for topping (optional)
- Beat whipping cream until stiff peaks appear.
- Beat cream cheese and sugar until fluffy.
- Add whipping cream to cream cheese mixture and beat for 2 minutes or until stiff.
- Add shots of liqueur to coffee. Mix.
- Dip lady fingers one at a time into coffee/liqueur mixture and layer bottom of tray. Once complete, add layer of cream mixture. Repeat both layers once more.
- Grate chocolate on top.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving, best if left overnight.
Be careful not to oversoak the lady fingers in the coffee or you will be left with too much liquid in your Tiramisu.
