Drinks Quick and Easy Recipes

Una margarita por favor — a watermelon margarita that is!

If you enjoy a margarita, I encourage you to try this one!  It has the perfect blend of sweetness from the watermelon and tartness from the lime.  Using watermelon also makes it the perfect summer cocktail — watermelon just screams S-U-M-M-E-R!

Can I also mention, I’m obsessed with its gorgeous bright colour!

If you’re looking for a simple drink to make for your friends during a summer get-together, then look no further.  I’ve got you covered! 🙂

Here’s how I like to make this.  (This recipe serves 4, making one glass each)

Watermelon Margarita

I start with the following ingredients:

    • 2 cups seedless watermelon, chopped
    • 1/4 cup lime juice
    • 3/4 cup Tequila
    • 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar (Note:  if your watermelon is very sweet, you may reduce the amount of sugar or remove it altogether)
    • 2 cups ice cubes
    • lime wedges to use for rimming your glasses (optional)
    • Kosher salt to use for rimming your glasses (again, optional)

Step 1

I start by blending the watermelon and sugar together, to ensure this is blended well.

Step 2

Next, into the blender, I add the tequila and lime juice to the watermelon mixture and blend once more.

Step 3 (Optional)

If you’d like to rim your glasses, use a lime wedge to moisten the rim of each glass.  You’ll then need to place some kosher salt (you could also use sugar here instead of salt) on a plate and then evenly dip each glass rim into the salt.

Step 4

I like to serve this drink over ice but I’m sure it would taste lovely if you also blended the ice into the drink, so feel free to try that as well.  I have yet to try the blended ice version.  I simply distribute my ice cubes into the glasses then pour the margarita evenly throughout the glasses.

It’s also a nice touch to garnish your glasses with watermelon wedges, but this is optional.

And ta-da, you’re left with this summer-licious drink!
